Mitigating the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on food and nutrition of schoolchildren

In this series, we share the interim guidance on Mitigating the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on food and nutrition of schoolchildren. Nearly 1.5 billion children – more than ninety percent of the world’s learners – are impacted due to school closures to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The closures are threatening the delivery of essential nutrition interventions to school-age children, especially the most vulnerable ones.

This joint guidance from FAO, UNICEF and WFP intends to guide countries on how to maintain the continuity of school nutrition programmes, including school feeding in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The guidance recommends actions to ensure that the nutritional needs of schoolchildren are fulfilled, both where schools are closed and where schools are open.
